About Me

Updated: November 8, 2005

Welcome. This is a random photo of me, from Flickr:

My name is Matt Thommes. I hope you enjoy my site. I try to update very frequently, as this has become an "outlet" for me, so I never go too many days without saying at least something.

I like to write about anything related to web design, technology, music, Apple, branding, and much more. My writings can be anything from three lines of song lyrics, to full articles of about 1,000 words. Normally, my writing tends to fall somewhere in between that.

I write for online publications, when I get the time:

Digital Web Magazine
Organizing Images With a Database
Pain in the Tech
Using Paths to create smooth, rounded corners in Photoshop

I have a background in graphic design, and most importantly, web development. I am a firm believer in designing with Web Standards, by separating content, from behaviour, from presentation. To me, this is the only way to develop sites, and it should be common sense to take this approach.

I am a fairly organized person, and I extend that to my web development.

I currently reside in a small suburb, right outside of Chicago. I’m pretty close to Chicago, so normally I just say that I live in Chicago. Most people can put a "name to a place" a lot faster that way.

I am a morning person, and I like to stretch as much as possible. By that, I mean, my arms, legs, neck, etc. It is the most important part of my day, as well as drinking lots of water.

I figure if I really like to sit in a chair all day to work on a computer, stretching should should be my number one priority – in order to keep the blood flowing, and my body loose.

You can contact me anytime – I look forward to your note. Also, I am on instant messenger quite a bit, while I am working. My screen name is matthomdotcom. Drop me a line anytime.

You are at my "About" page. Please be forgiving of pointless, self-absorbed comments, here. Sometimes it’s not easy to talk about yourself.
