Eat, drink, and be merry Oct11 '03

Like we do with the leaves on the lawn at this time of year, bars and restaurants everywhere must be raking in sales since the Cubs have been in the playoffs. Most people won’t disagree with me on that.

An article today in the Business section of the Chicago Tribune noted the economy will not improve, just because of the increased sales at bars and restaurants.

Sources in the article stated that although bars and restaurants are pulling in extremely high numbers due to the extended baseball season, it is not enough to change the big picture of the economy.

I am certainly one who has been spending lavishly over the past few weeks, and it’s hard not to. The excitement of the Cubs’ consistent winning seems to make the credit cards fly out of the wallet. All the money spent on food and beer is insignificant to the possibility that the Cubs may win it all, for the first time since 1908. Money is no matter.

Two pitchers, and three bottles of beer, $19.50. One order of chicken fingers, $6.75. One order of super nachos, $7.45. One Bacardi and coke, $4.00. A chance to see the Cubs go all the way for the first time since 1908, priceless.
