Online DVD rentals? Jun13 '04
I am thinking about trying the Netflix DVD service. I want to see if it’s worth it.
I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time now, and the only thing that has truly turned me off is the fact that I don’t watch that many DVDs. But I could.
Yes, with the right convenience, and a fair price tag, I could certainly get used to watching DVDs a lot more ;)
Their current offer is pretty nice. They allow you to keep in your posession three DVDs at a time. You can keep these as long as you want. When you are finished with one, or all three movies, you ship them back (free of charge), and within a few days, you receive three more (again no shipping charge).
And their price per month is just $22.
Let’s do the math. At a typical video store, three DVDs would cost you approximately $12. And there are about 30 days in a month.
If you add just $10 more, you get unlimited DVDs sent to you all month long.
I think it’s safe to say that most people watch anywhere from 2–5 movies a month. Some people watch more than that, and some may watch hardly any.
It’s no challenge to convince the people who watch a lot of movies, but the ones who don’t – you have to wonder why. Is it because it’s too much effort to rent and return each DVD? Is it because they don’t have time?
I am certainly in the "minimal views" category – meaning I don’t watch many movies, and I think it’s because I am always working at my computer when I am at home. But I also think it is a hassle to have to go and get the movie each time I want to see one. It would be nice to have the movie(s) come to me, for a change.
With Netflix, I can have that luxury.
However, it’s still good to see if anyone out there had a bad experience with such a service. I still want would like to hear what people have to say before I go ahead with this.
Anyone tried DVD rentals online? If so, let me hear you. Drop me a note, or post it here.
