The moment you see clearly Jul09 '04
I love how in movies you watch a certain number of scenes run during a specific timeframe, and then, as the scene shifts to a new one, the bottom of the screen says, "6 months later," or "3 years later...," or whatever the case may be.
I appreciate this subtle shift in balance – for it seems that everything in the movie (and, in turn, our own lives) lies on a timeline, and what we do today can only be understood (and fully grasped) much later. I often feel a strong sense of reassurance whenever this happens in movies, because even though I know the movie is just acting, and the scenes didn’t really happen in the past and future (as the movie portrays), I still get a certain sense of the depth and magnitude of what we call "life."
It makes you realize that although "life" is only that which exists at the exact moment in time, there is a far greater relevance to everything you do.
