iDisk issues Sep05 '04

I’ve had a .Mac membership for a month now, and I enjoy many of the features. The two main things I use it for are sharing my calendars online, and accessing my iDisk, which is like a virtual hard drive.

However, lately I’ve been having trouble accessing my iDisk. It seems like such a simple concept, yet it doesn’t work as smoothly as Apple makes it seem.

iDisk is a "virtual web folder," which allows you to store up to 100 MB of files, just like you would to a folder on your local hard drive. The sweet side of iDisk is that you can access this folder from anywhere in the world.

For example, when I try to "sync" my iDisk, on my Mac – sometimes it doesn’t respond.

You see that little "circled arrow" icon? That’s what you hit, for your iDisk to "sunc." Except, sometimes it doesn’t respond. And when it does, it takes an hour to sync my items, even if there’s only a few new items in there.

And I am using a cable modem to connect to the internet.

Apparently, I am not doing something right. I have researched iDisk numerous times, and like I said, Apple makes it seem so simple.

Sure, it’s simple. When it responds.
