Firefox not ready for mainstream? Sep07 '04
Adam Kalsey talks about why he doesn’t appreciate Firefox. Since I am more of a "power user," I can’t seem to relate to his complaints. I can understand what he’s saying, but I don’t experience any of the specific drawbacks.
No "Go" buttons next to the address bar and search bar by default. Many, many users need a button to click. They don’t know that just hitting enter will do the trick.
I agree. I like seeing the "Go" button, but I also know that hitting enter will "whisk me away" to the page.
Most Web users don’t know what a browser is. That blue E they click on the desktop isn’t a browser, it’s “The Internet.” Or maybe it’s "Yahoo" if that’s what their home page is set to. Tell them to download a new browser and they don’t understand what you mean.
Is this true? Is the "blue E" that convincing? Do most users not know what a browser is?
Maybe Adam is right, but I still think Firefox is better browser, than Internet Explorer. I think people assume that the only way to access the internet is by hitting that "blue E." Therefore, they think that Internet Explorer is the only way to go.
This is not true. The web is for the people, not for Microsoft. Take the web back.
