No happy celebration here Oct28 '04

I didn’t watch the end of the game.

I had no interest in seeing another team celebrate, when I knew damn well that some other guys should be the ones celebrating.

But those other guys blew it. They didn’t make it that far, and they deserve to not be there.

Even knowing that, I still couldn’t watch. I turned it off in the bottom of the eighth inning, when it was only a few outs away from the heroic end.

I went in my room, and shut the lights out, and fell fast asleep – probably well before the first champagne bottle was even cracked open.

And all day today, I keep ignoring the newspaper and web articles, pertaining to the celebration, and the images of the long–suffering Boston fans. The smiles on their faces.

I refuse to be absorbed in it. I know better.

For the record, I am happy for the Red Sox. A 96 year drought is tough to snap. They did it.

I’d like to say that the Cubs are next to break the curse, but I know that may not happen.

But something inside of me hopes.
