Supporting IE? Advantage null Dec29 '04
Anne mentions Internet Explorer in his entry about favicons.
Personally I do not think the advantage of supporting Internet Explorer outweighs the disadvantage of lower quality and less options.
A bold quote, indeed. This is, in fact, how many "standards thinking" web developers think.
Internet Explorer is the "problem child," when it comes to designing web pages with advanced CSS techniques, and even for little things like favicons – as Anne mentions.
I DO check my web work in IE, just because it exists. But I don’t build directly for IE.
I build for "standards supportive" browsers, such as Firefox, Safari, and Opera. I believe in building for the most compliant browsers first, and then checking my work in the less agile browers, later.
And, yes, the limited support for a favicon in IE also pisses me off.
