Just a moment Dec30 '04
I am taking a break from semantics and code for a minute to acknowledge the shock, fear, and pain being felt on the other side of my world.
I don’t need to broadcast how much destruction and chaos the natural disaster has put forth onto southern and southeast Asia. Everyone knows the facts, and can see the numbers everywhere they turn.
To be silent about such a catastrophic event is poorly self–centered, and ill–human.
So, here and now, I speak what lies in my heart – and as I shake with unease, and sadness – I want to cry.
I want to know what’s like over there. I want to see it with my own eyes. I want to feel the direct pain.
The images are so gruesome, surreal, and unfair. The words are heartbreaking.
As world leaders come together to help the tireless efforts and grieving families of the region, I can only stand by and watch.
I know this blog is just words on a screen, and I know thousands of other bloggers have already mentioned the events – but I am a person too. I am a person behind that screen you’re looking at. I have feelings, too.
As I’m sure you’ve done many times in the last few days, let’s take another moment of silence. Just stop whatever web sites you’re reading, emails you’re writing, dinner you’re making, TV you’re watching – and pause. Pause and be silent.
Just for a moment.
That moment is how quick it happened.
