iDisk for business Mar19 '05

iDisk offers incredible capabilities for storing, sharing, and retreiving your business or personal files, from anywhere in the world.

Random work scenario

The other day, at work, I was asked to address an iDisk issue. It seems someone was having trouble connecting to a shared iDisk folder, through Windows XP.

Navigating to the appropriate location (My Network Places and Add new Web Folder), I was able to connect to the iDisk folder.

Now, my co–worker was able to successfully retrieve the shared files.

Business benefits of universal shared folders

The business world is starting to take notice of the benefits of universal shared folders, such as .Mac’s iDisk service, which allows you to store and share files with anyone in the world.

After all, a network server is nice, but what good does it do if only internal people can access it?

Although I’ve had issues with iDisk before, I believe it is well worth the cost.

Cost and space

When you first sign up for a $99/year .Mac membership, you are immediately allocated 100 MB of disk space. This can be increased, by shifting around disk allocation with your .Mac email account, for up to 250 MB of disk space.

And, for a mere $50/year extra, you can bump up your disk space to 1 GB. This is a huge benefit, at a minimal cost.

The bottom line

The benefits of iDisk are obvious, for both business and personal use.

Hopefully Apple will continue to make this service even better in the future.
