MLB.TV pros and cons Jul18 '05

Tonight I purchased a one-day pass for MLB.TV - which is live, streaming video of all baseball games currently being played, on a given night.

The cost was cheap - $4 for the day, and I figured it was worth a try. After all, the computer is the way I want to absorb all types of media, including baseball, sports, and anything else.

In fact, computers have turned into such high-speed media superstations, I can't imagine ever sitting down to a movie at a television set, without more media to entertain me.

I am an absolute media freak. I absorb anything and everything I can get my hands on.

In any case, I have a broadband connection, but the video stream still seems "choppy." I tried playing with the preferences, but to no avail.

Also, local games are "blacked out," meaning you can’t view them, in this method. I tried to get the Cubs and Sox games from tonight, but they gave me a sudden alert message:

You might be wondering why I am trying to access a local baseball game, when it is probably on a television in my actual house. Well, like I said above, if I go to a television set, how can I absorb other media at the same time? I can’t.

Not to mention I don’t have cable TV in my room, and the Cubs game is on cable tonight.

So... other than the "blackouts," and "choppy viewing," MLB.TV is rather impressive. I can click on any game, and instantly be taken to it, much like a television remote would switch channels.

If a commercial comes on, I simply switch to another game.

Very nice.
