Feed reader options needed Sep02 '05
I’ve been searching for a new feed reader, to either compliment Bloglines, or replace it.
I’ve been growing tired of the same interface, at Bloglines, and hardly any extensibility. For example, I’d like my Bloglines account to show me more information - such as weather, Flickr photos, perhaps email, etc.
Right now I have to have my Gmail account open in one tab, and Bloglines open in another tab. And Flickr open in another tab.
Perhaps it’s too much to ask to have all these applications combined into a single interface, but there’s gotta be a way to improve things.
So, I’ve taken a look around the web for advice, and there are many options for feed readers. But I am looking for something web based, with good syncing capabilities - meaning if I check my account from multiple computers, everything should remain in sync.
Bloglines does a wonderful job at syncing. I can check my account from multiple computers, my cell phone, and things are always in sync. This is why it is hard to leave such a good service. But I’m not leaving it entirely. Like I said, I might be able to use multiple feed readers, that compliment each other. I’m just looking for some variation.
So far, I’ve tried out My Yahoo, which seems to be a nice alternative. The only problem is it can only handle a limited number of feeds - simply because there is just not enough screen space to handle hundreds:
I suppose this could be a good thing, because I’ve been meaning to "prune" the number of feeds I have, anyway.
Also, since Yahoo owns Flickr, perhaps it’s a good thing to start using Yahoo’s services more - because maybe one day they will combine Flickr with "My Yahoo," and more.
