Apple blogs steal news Sep12 '05

Lately, Apple news sites have been pissing me off. Better yet - it’s the Apple blogs that irritate me.

I guess I just don’t understand how anyone can maintain a web site, based on someone else’s product. It’s not something I can see myself ever doing. I just don’t see inspiration in reviewing (over and over) products that are being reviewed a million times elsewhere - by professional writers, at that.

Believe it or not, that Apple survey I just posted about - was blantantly copied by an Apple blog site, and made their own. In other words, this site took the Apple .Mac survey, and made it seem as if they were running the survey, not Apple.

Here is the text of the blog entry:

Got a great story about .Mac to tell? Has it saved the day? Do you use it to communicate in an inventive way? If you’ve got a cool story about how you use .Mac, we want you to tell us about it! We’ll pass the most interesting stories along to Apple for possible inclusion in a special article on .Mac, so start talking!

"We want you to tell us?" "We’ll pass stories along to Apple?"

This is Apple’s survey, not yours! Notice how they took that news, and pretended it was their own. And they copied the entire HTML form, and put it onto their own site.

Not to mention, this is not even an "official Apple site." It says so in the disclaimer:

All Rights Reserved. All trademarks and copyrights by their respective owners. dotmac.info is an independent website and is not affiliated with Apple Computer or its .Mac service.

... and it is not affiliated with Apple...

If you’re gonna spread Apple news, at least maintain that Apple is the source. Don’t steal news.

And, I’m sure most noticed the name of the site I am talking about, in the disclaimer. After all, I was referencing a source, so I include a link to that source. I don’t steal it.
