Red Sox win the media, but White Sox the series Oct07 '05
The Boston Red Sox just lost to Chicago’s very own White Sox.
Thank God.
I’m so sick of this "dream team," biased analysis by all the nation’s major news networks. Everyone is fanatic about two things: the Yankees, and the Red Sox. That’s all you ever hear about, in professional baseball media.
Well tonight, that changed. Sorry, Boston fans - you barely made the playoffs, while the White Sox stampeded over almost every opponent, during the regular season. But yet, all we heard about in all three playoff games was, "Red Sox this," "Red Sox that."
Since when is winning one championship a reign?
Reign, definition: the period in which a monarch rules. Key word: period. One championship is not a period. Two championships, or more, is a period.
The White Sox kicked their ass, in every fundamental way, possible. They couldn’t have done it any more perfect - as they have done all season. Except... the Red Sox are still the "dream team."
ESPN should just change their name to BRS, as in Boston Red Sox.
If the ESPN announcers even acknowledged the White Sox during this series, it was only to reference some indirect situation, years ago, when some Red Sox player (or Yankee) was involved.
Even when the White Sox completed the sweep of this first series, mere minutes ago, all the announcers could think of saying was, "Well, the White Sox are trying to do what the Red Sox did, last year." Can they say anything without mentioning the Red Sox!? Just once, is all I ask!
I love baseball. I love the competition, and I love how you’re only as good as your last game. Anything can happen, on any given day.
But the media is a plague. They sweep in with their arrogant, big-time announcers - thinking they know it all. They play favorites, and hardly any of them have even played the game themselves.
ESPN, Fox, NBC - all guilty of this - in many different sports.
Something tells me if the White Sox win it all this year, we’ll be seeing Red Sox video footage from last year.
And, if you think I’m just the arrogant, sore-winner from Chicago - think again. I’m not even a White Sox fan. I’m a Cubs fan.
