The optimum solution is probably to combine all three: use paging, sorting, and filtering. It doesn’t have to be either/or.

I agree with #1. I am currently searching for javascript widgets which are easy to use (as in no big modification to the table itself) and achieve all three things at one time.

Sadly it’s hard to find a nice solution so if you know a good (and free) one I’d be glad to hear from you...
