On professional sports in Miami Nov01 '06
After last night's Halloween massacre in Miami, it's safe to say the Miami Heat are truly over-rated, and they always have been, in my mind.
As a Bulls fan, we came so close to knocking them out of the playoffs last season, in the first round. Tell me, how could a team loaded with "supposed" superstars allow the lowly Chicago Bulls to almost knock them out of the playoffs?
You know why? Because the Miami Heat are "has beens." They are all superstars of the 90's. With the exception of Dwayne Wade, the Heat are way past their prime, and it's evident in games like last night, where the younger and fresher Bulls ran them in circles.
Something is just not right when the NBA champs get beat by 42 points at home, on the same night that they receive their championship rings.
For the Heat, is this any way to welcome their fans back to the NBA season?
The same fans that walked out of the game, at half-time, to go to the clubs?
[08:57] Pat: they said on the broadcast it was common for them to leave at halftime to go to the clubs
[08:57] Pat: u would never see that anywhere else miami doesn't deserve a pro team for any sport period
My buddy Pat and I talked this over earlier this morning on IM.
[08:59] Pat: hell they may not show up in atlanta or memphis but they atleast stay through the whole game
These Miami fans are the "best in the NBA," as the announcer exclaimed during the ring ceremony? Hardly.
And the broadcast (TNT) hardly gave any attention to the Bulls - who just keep coming out and beating the Heat, similar to last season's playoffs. What does it take to get some attention and respect?
I guess if you fill your team with the stars of yesterday, you're on your way.
The NBA needs to get into the year 2006/2007 - and realize that younger teams are dumping on the veteran clubs. Younger, quicker, and can last 60 minutes a night.
It's not 1999 anymore - and that means the obsession with Shaq needs to go away. For once, please. Will the media stop talking about Shaq?
I doubt it. But maybe if the Bulls beat the Heat a few dozen more times, someone will notice something.
But it certainly won't be the Miami Heat fans, because they'll be busy at the clubs.
