Amazon search by brand name in Firefox Feb08 '07

Amazon lets you narrow your search by product category, but this is often a backwards approach for me. Sometimes I just want to see products under a specific brand name.

There is no quick way of doing this on Amazon, until you actually view a product page:

Notice the line that says "Other products by Sony." Clicking that link will bring you to a listing of all products by Sony - quite helpful when you're looking for a product under a specific brand.

I wanted a quicker way to do this, so I created a Firefox keyword search bookmark.

Now I can just go to the address bar, and type: amazonb sony, and it will immediately take me to the Sony product page of Amazon. I can replace "sony" with whatever brand I am looking for.

The full URL for this keyword bookmark is:

http://www.amazon.com/s.html/103-8897983-0412643?ie=UTF8&node=3760931&brand=%s

Notice the very end of the URL: brand=%s. This is where the dynamic part happens. The "%s" is a placeholder for whatever search term you are using. So, for Sony, it would appear like this:

http://www.amazon.com/s.html/103-8897983-0412643?ie=UTF8&node=3760931&brand=Sony

It's features like this that keep me attached to Firefox. Some things are just too handy.
