That is why you have me to do all that stuff except test drive the car. You know I love shopping for cars. My big tip is to look for a car that expresses who you are and your personality. If you are young dont buy a grandpa car like a chevy impala or anything under the buick or mercury line, those cars just say I am old an boring. Cars are unique like your personality, find the one that matches yours!

Sorry to any who might have offened by calling any of the above cars I called grandpa cars, but the truth is is that that is the image they portray. Just the fact.

Yeah - I love car shopping too. I'm pretty good as sold if you get me in for a test drive. When I went to sell my last car - I was waiting for them to come back with an offer, and of course, I found a car that I had always loved, and I took it for a test drive. It was an easy sell. So what turned out to be a trip to get rid of my car (I didn't really need it at the time), I walked out with a new one.

I agree with Michelle - cars can reflect your personality, so take some time to find out what suits you (and your budget!) I'm already looking into what my next car will be - even though I probably won't purchase it for another 10 months or so.

Amanda, you sound like me. I think it always happens that way that you go to look and you get sold on a car you fall in love with and end up buying. I am always looking for my next car. Matt can agree with that. My last purchase though I really believe will end my need for a new car every 2 years. I bought 2 months ago a full loaded Honda Civic Coupe. For this car though I did do my research like Matt said and it paid off. I knew what would be the best out of all my options and I am extremely happy with my purchase. **One other tip I have when you start to look is to know what is important to you in your new car. Personally my big things that I look for are the safety and fuel efficiency. Of course, it does have to look good. : )

Well, if milk cost me more than $15,000, I'd probably spend longer thinking about what I was buying. :)

Before I bought my car, I spent a lot of time researching on edmunds.com, both what car to buy and how to buy it (haggling with dealers, etc.) I really got into it. And I'm very happy with my blue Ford Focus - great color, style, size, and price. It met my criteria and made me happy too. Sure, the novelty wears off, and I certainly don't visit edmunds.com anymore, but it would feel wrong for me to spend so much money without doing some hefty research first.

Hi Matthom, You have shared some valuable car buying tips and provided a great test-drive checklist!

A quick and easy idea on how to make the car-buying process less of, well, a process is to go online. Sites like Edmunds.com, as Jennifer mentioned, as well as AutoTrader.com, are great places to start.

AutoTrader.com has a whole Research and Compare section (http://www.autotrader.com/research/index.jsp) where you can compare cars side by side, learn more about the benefits of buying certified, and how to find the best deal whether buying used or new. Not to mention, you can do all that, AND search for your new car, find the value of your car and sell your car all in the same place.

If there's anything I can do to help further, please let me know!

Thanks and best,

Karlie Stanton AutoTrader.com
