Meebo Rooms are a great idea May15 '07
I've been playing around with Meebo Rooms, and I'm really liking it so far.
Meebo Rooms are like giant chat rooms, but you can do so much more. For example, you can include media such as web links (which get previewed right there in the room), and you can embed the entire room onto any web page, much like Meebo Me.
Each room is a unique window, which has a permalink, so they act more like individual web pages, where users can jump into anytime.
If you're a Meebo user, your room's URL looks like:
http://www.meebo.com/user/matthom/room/
matthom would be your unique username.
If you create your own rooms, your URL looks like:
http://www.meebo.com/room/chicagocubsroom/
chicagocubsroom would be your unique room name.
You can create as many rooms as you'd like! They can be either public or private, which require a password of your choosing.
Think of it as a Google Group but in real-time!
So far, I've created a couple rooms to get me started with the fun:
Be careful though - there doesn't seem to be a way to delete a room. All public rooms fall into a "giant room index," which can be discovered by anyone. The best way to "delete" a room is to mark it private.
There are also many "featured" rooms, such as CNET, NBC Late Night, and Dave Chappelle. Many more are getting added by the minute!
Almost any topic you can think of - there may soon be a room for it!
