Zoho Creator Jun17 '07

Zoho Creator looks like it could be very useful.

Think of it as a "web version" of Microsoft Access. It provides similar features to Microsoft Access, with the added benefit of having your forms and data immediately exist on the web, for users to access.

The interface is really impressive, typical of Zoho's existing applications.

Think of all the data you have residing either in existing relational databases, or in flat files on your computer. Wouldn't it be great to immediately provide a user interface for that data? The interface could be a simple view of all the records, with the ability to search, sort, and filter. Or, it could be a customized web form, where users can append new data.

Zoho Creator allows this, and much more. You don't even need programming experience - most of it is "drag and drop." But, the option is there if you wish to apply scripting on your own.

This could potentially save developers a lot of time.

One immediate usage for me is the ability to quickly display database records, with search, sort, and filter options. I written before about the hassle of displaying table data.

With Zoho Creator, all I need is the data itself. The rest of it: the HTML page, and the scripting, is already in place.
