It is worth thinking about how you might migrate the data somewhere else if you ever "outgrow" the features that one particular service provides. Most of these things do not offer access to the database, so I look for something that has export functionality, or look for something imports. For example, I just started a community blog using Wordpress.com for my neighbors. If we want to move to other software, we can get an XML dump and take our data with us.
Also, advertising can essentially pay for hosting/domain fees for the right application, something to consider. I could go on and on about this but that's all for now.
