Cubs first round playoff scheduling stupidityI'm really not happy with the scheduling for the Cubs first round of playoffs with the Arizona Diamondbacks, which begins tomorrow night on TBS. The first two games air at 9 PM local Chicago time, both on weeknights. The weekend games also present awkward times. This is absurb. Fans will remain up to watch, of course, but it's still presents a great disservice. Based on past history, the Cubs have always began regular season games at 8 PM when playing in Arizona (Phoenix), and Colorado (Denver). Since all Major League Baseball night games (not including weekends, holidays, or special occasions) always start at 7 PM local time, I was always under the impression that Arizona and Colorado were only one hour behind Chicago. It seems there is some discrepancy, though. Some people tell me that certain areas of Arizona are only one hour behind Chicago, and other areas are a full two hours behind. I'm not sure who to believe anymore, as I can't seem to get the facts straight. It's clear, however, that Diamondback fans got the better end of the deal (except for game 4, which starts at 10 AM Phoenix time). Here's the breakdown of local start times for each game in the series:
These times are ridiculous for fans. All the 9 PM games are on weeknights. It might be different if it was a weekend, but still too late for most people that work at 7 AM. The Saturday game starts at 5 PM?? I can't even make dinner plans around that since it's so early! And Sunday at noon?? Extremely early, and yet I shouldn't complain - watchers in Phoenix have to tune in at 10 AM!! I understand the TBS network is almost entirely at fault. They are trying to schedule as many games per day as possible, but this is just plain stupidity. Comments/Mentions |

Look on the bright side - you'll only have to endure three of these oddly scheduled games and then the Cubs season will be over.
I kid! I kid!
