Quicktime hidden files Nov12 '07

If you work a lot with video conversion on Mac OS X, chances are you may use Quicktime Pro for exporting video files into different formats.

When editing or converting videos in Quicktime, hidden files are placed on your hard drive. At first I assumed the hidden files were temporary. However, they don't seem to go away unless I physically delete them. These files are not small either. Depending on the size of the videos you were converting or editing, the hidden files can become just as large.

By default, OS X Finder does not display hidden or "invisible" files. My choice for viewing hidden files is Panic's FTP client, Transmit.

Here's a shot of my desktop through the Finder, and through Transmit, after I edited and converted some files in Quicktime:

Notice the additional Quicktime files, as viewed through Transmit.

Quite large, and really serving no purpose now that the real Quicktime files have already been uploaded and removed from the computer.
