Box.net multiple file selection Feb01 '08

It's intriguing to see how web applications handle certain aspects of computing that desktop apps have always supported.

For example, multiple file selection is a necessary control that aids in minimizing redundancy when managing a group of items.

There are two common ways to select multiple files on a desktop:

  1. Using the mouse: Click and drag a box surrounding all of the items you wish to select.
  2. Using the keyboard: Click one item, then for each consecutive item, hold Ctrl down while clicking. You can also Shift-click to select a range.

Certain web applications also allow for this same control.

For example, both Gmail and Remember The Milk allow for Shift-select.

Box.net recently added the ability to drag a box around a group of items:

This behavior works wonderfully and is a tremendous time-saver.
